Melukote - Fort of the GodsMelukote or Melkote literally means upper fort. However it transformed from a military history to a centre of philosophy. Today it's a small picturesque town on the hilltop known for its small community of ‘Iyengars’, the vast Krishna temple, spectatcular views and last but not the least, famous for rice based dishes - the tangy puliogare & the sweet sakkarepongal. A Sanskrit university and a palace ruins complete the picture.
