My journey with Unhurried began far from the world of heritage and travel—in the office cubicles of software companies. Like any Bangalorean (or Bengalurean), I had a successful career in the world of IT& Programming.
However, though it helped me travel to many places, somewhere there was a disconnect. I wanted to be involved in something that gave me more satisfaction in what I do than just build software systems for big companies.
I have always been passionate about history and culture and during my travels abroad, I was deeply inspired by the way the local histories were brought to life.
In every small town and city across US & Europe that I’ve visited, the people showcase their local history & culture with not just pride but in a professional way – through researched story walks, culture trails and heritage themed fun activities.
It wasn’t just about visiting monuments—it was about understanding the story of the place. There came a time when I knew more about Boston than Bengaluru! That void pushed me to research more about South India and write about it.
In India, heritage tourism generally revolves around monuments and palaces. But what about the busy streets of a marketplace? Or the food people eat whose recipes are centuries old? Or for that matter temples or homes that have a story, literally, etched on their walls. We just have to take a step back and look at a place unhurried. The layers of history open up like a beautiful book.
And so, in 2012, Unhurried was born.
Through Unhurried, I aim to explore the diverse culture and history of South India. Through walks, tours, stories, experiences, meeting people, eating food – getting to know South India just the way you get to know Cambodia or Paris or London.
Bangalore was a natural place to start. It’s my hometown, a city often seen through the lens of IT and modern growth. Slowly it expanded beyond the city, exploring Karnataka, my home state.
What began as a personal mission has, over the last 13 years, evolved into a collective journey with passionate like-minded people in exploring South India. Whether it’s a walk through old Bengaluru, a day trip to the temple town of Melukote, walking on the ramparts of a fort or a journey into the heart of Karnataka, Unhurried not only helps you see these places but understand it better.
Thank you for being a part of our Unhurried journey.
