Hills, History, Temples, Museums and Forts
The temples of India are the backbones of Indian history, art and architecture. We visit two places – the Yoganandi or just Nandi Hills and the huge Bhoganandi temple at the foot of Nandi hills.
While Nandi Hills is known for its lovely views, birds, forts, the temple at its foothills is known for elaborate structures in stone, carvings of Shiva stories, a lovely step well, centuries old balance, a repentant King and of course the lovely decorated Nandis.
Let’s hear the stories, learn a mudra or two at the temple of Shiva, the God of Dance. From here, we walk through the area known as Sultanpet where Tipu & the English stories pop out as historical anecdotes.
Further down is Muddenahalli, the home of Sir MV, whose small abode is a museum of his times, today. Returning back, one can see the fort of Devanahalli & the fit ones could walk on the ramparts and imagine the war torn times of Tipu Sultan.
The tour starts with the guided walk through the vast Bhoganandi temple, the Nandi grama(village) & Sultanpet villages, Nandi Hills atop and also some snippets of heritage nuggets at Devanahalli Fort nearby (the fit ones can walk the rampart and reimagine the medieval war torn times), ancient water tanks and other quaint sights that are at home in a very rural setting, just off the modern city of Bengaluru.
